What is Thermal Modification?

Thermal modification is the process by which wood is heated to the point where cellular changes occur.
Rot resistance and stability characteristics are improved by reducing the sugar content oil in the wood.
Sugar is the food source for mold and fungus to eat away and in turn rot the wood.
The thermal modification process also reduces the absorbency of wood cells much like holes being punched in straw, so they lose their “suction effect”.

Saunas have proven health benefits, including stress reduction, cardiovascular improvements, and muscle relaxation.
